The Light-Hearted Astronomer

This is a short, and admittedly old, book, but it still gives a great introduction to the world of amateur astronomy. While his advice on equipment is out of date, the principles still apply. Same with his sections on astrophotography - this was written before digital photography, but in general the rules still work.
